NEWSLETTER – AUTUMN, 2004The days are shorter, the nights have a pleasant nip in them – Autumn is here. Our lessons are back in full swing, as well as competition at Shows and we are leaving for Sydney Royal very soon. Lessons will cease on Sat 27/03/04 and recommence from the 19/4/04 when we return from the Sydney Royal. Regular lessons will be back to normal times when school goes back on Tuesday 27/04/04. In the meantime, lessons can be booked for during the second week of the school holidays. There will also be a Three Day School – See below. We have been very busy since Christmas time. Our spring Clearance Sale was very successful and Marena horses have been sold to Tasmania, West Aust., South Aust., Victoria, Queensland and, of course, NSW. Our Stud name has achieved a high status over the years and most of the horses were sold interstate with just a phone call. The perception evidently is well established that the Marena horses will be exactly as we describe them. It was very gratifying to receive enthusiastic and pleased phone calls from the new owners after the horses arrived at their destinations. We are pleased to welcome our new helper, Lee Stevens, to our ranks. Lee is a very experienced horsewoman with expertise in showjumping, eventing and dressage. Lee came to us to add to her knowledge our methods of horse handling, breaking-in and training. She is “over-the-moon” at what she is learning – things she did not know existed- and we are very happy to have such an enthusiastic pupil who is so willing to soak up our knowledge. Which all goes to show there is so much to learn beside how to sit on a horse, that is, learn to ride a horse for comfort, safety and control. Therefore, keep up your lessons, there are some wonderful exciting things ahead to learn. Kier Ferrie, long time pupil at Marena Stud, is now at the University in Hawkesbury doing an Agricultural course. Kier is at present with us doing 2 months work experience. It is lovely to have Kier working with us, she has been riding with us for several years and showing at Royal shows with us as well. On her Uni. practical work experience she is facing the behind the scenes problems we have to solve everyday. Due to the dry conditions, we have weaned our foals early – It is a lovely time of year to see the little ones take their first steps toward independence. HORSE SALE - We are preparing our next Catalogue of Horses for Sale. The horses included in this sale are very top quality and some are being broken in and trained now ready for offer. The list includes ponies, galloways and hacks from 12 hands, aged from yearlings to four years. Some foals will also be offered if your wish is to watch your horse grow up and perhaps show it as a youngster. Many pupils wish to own their own horse. We recommend restraint in this department. Beginners certainly could not manage their own horse as there is too much to learn - balance, safety, control and horse care. The advantage of learning with us is that we have experienced lesson horses for each individual’s standard, right through from beginner to advanced riding competition. As a pupil gains a new level, we have a horse to help them reach the next stage, right through to introducing them to the Show ring. Something not possible if you own your own horse as the same horse cannot possibly suit all stages of the pupil’s development. The up-shot of purchasing a horse before you are ready for it will be staying at the same level, or even worse, going backwards and loosing confidence as well as the danger of an accident if the horse is too advanced for the rider. No one knows better than the teacher, what a pupil needs. We, your teachers, know you best, what standards you are at and the horse most suitable for your needs. PLEASE consult us if you are thinking of buying a horse. We know what is suitable for you age, purpose and experience. Many of our most successful riders have gone through all stages, even riding at Royal Shows and interstate on our horses, never owning a horse of their own. They become part of our show team and have access to the best horses that they love as their own. Sydney Royal We are taking ten horses to Sydney and will be helped by Lee Stevens, Kier Ferrie, Kristie Nicholls, Jarrod Ashbrook, Alex Keith and Nikki Melrose. Competing with us will be Kath Jones, Sarah McMillian, Tanya Edwards, Dana Anderson, Brook Higgins, Bugsy Darlington, Nell Evans as well as Ben and Jody Maytom. If any of you are down at the Show we would love to see you, we will be in our usual spot in the Falkiner Pavilion. Gosford Agricultural Show is on the 1st and 2nd May,’04 - Central Coast & Lower Hunter Assoc. will be running the horse section this year. Many of our pupils will be competing there so it might be a good place to go and see your friends in action. Also, any parents who would like to volunteer your help would be greatly appreciated. Canberra Royal – We took off with four horses to compete at Canberra in February. Maureen, Bruce, Lindy and Luke, with Kath Jones, Alex Keith, Nell Evans and family, Kier Ferrie, Sarah and Kathy McMillian. Results at Canberra
Ben Maytom had a huge smile on his face when he won Champion PC Rider and his sister Jodie was 2nd in her rider class. Ben will be riding in the Grand National Championships this weekend – Good Luck Ben. St Ives – was our last show before Sydney. Kath Jones’ Vashti ridden by Lindy was Champion Hack over 16hh and Nell Evans’ Marena Memories was Champion Hack over 15hh. Tanya Edwards’ Marena Conair was Reserve Champion Pony hack. Katie Eynon and Alex Keith have also been competing with us at shows on a regular basis. Alex won her Novice Girl Rider at this Show. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 19th, 20th.and 21st April, 2004 Please book early to ensure a place in the School. You may have to ring Lindy on her mobile - 0418 433 710 or Mrs Walker on hers – 0408 611 556 as we will be at the Show for a couple of weeks. Regular lessons will begin again on 27/4/04 when school goes back.
Good Luck to all our pupils at Sydney Royal, may you ride well. Lots of love and best wishes for a Happy Easter. Lindy and Mrs Walker |
